Am I still tax resident in Spain?

The Spanish tax office applies three rules. One is enough for you to be taxed in Spain on your worldwide income. Most countries use similar tests.

Sporadic absences also count unless you prove tax residency elsewhere.

The three rules

Presence. More than 183 days in the calendar year in Spain. Sporadic absences are added unless you prove tax residency in another country.

Centre of economic interests. If the core of your activities or economic interests is in Spain, you are resident even if you spend few days there.

Family. If your spouse (not separated) and dependent minor children live in Spain, you are presumed to live there too. A tax residency certificate from another country can rebut it.

Indicative. Every case has nuances; check yours with a tax adviser.
