How we score

Each country gets a score from 0 to 10 on five criteria: personal income tax, company tax, cost of residency, ease of getting it, and quality of life and connections.

The final score is a weighted average. The weights change with what you are looking for:

  • Live and company: income 30%, company 30%, cost 13%, ease 14%, life 13%.
  • Live: income 45%, cost 15%, ease 20%, life 20%.
  • Company: company 50%, income 15%, cost 15%, ease 20%.

We subtract 15 points from countries on the Spanish blacklist when the visitor is Spanish, because of the five-year rule. Your profile adjusts the score: days you can spend abroad, passport, wealth, your priority and whether you already live in the country.

What we do not do

Nobody pays to appear or to move up. If we ever link to a service that pays us a commission, we will mark it.

Review

We review rates and residency programmes every quarter. Each country page shows its sources and review date. The full data is available as open data.
